Bela Fleck And The Flecktones - Left Of Cool album flac

Left of Cool is the fifth studio album released by Béla Fleck and the Flecktones, released in 1998. Left of Cool is the first album to feature Jeff Coffin, who had already toured with the band after the departure of Howard Levy. The album cover depicts Future Man, Béla Fleck, and Victor Wooten standing on Coffin's head. On the Live at the Quick DVD, Fleck describes how after the melody for "Big Country" came to him, he called his answering machine and sang it so it would not be lost.

Béla Fleck and the Flecktones is an American band that combines jazz and bluegrass music. The band's name is a play on 1960s rock band Dick Dale and the Del-Tones. The Flecktones formed in 1988 when Béla Fleck was invited to perform on the PBS TV series The Lonesome Pine Specials. The original members were Fleck on banjo, Victor Wooten on bass guitar, his brother Roy Wooten on Drumitar, and Howard Levy on harmonica and keyboards.

Contrary to the band name, this version of the Flecktones is probably led more by the Wooten brothers than Bela. Victor is a maestro of the electric bass, a true legend among players of the instrument. Though Bela Fleck and Victor Wooten are masters of their instruments, this isn't the place to dive in to their music. Prog fans, even those deep into fusion, will probably not have the patience to do the sifting this album requires. Better choices recorded as Bela Fleck solo albums include Tales from the Acoustic Planet or the classical Perpetual Motion.

That didn't necessarily mean that they had run out of ideas, but it does mean that Left of Cool simply isn't as captivating as earlier efforts by Fleck. For most fans, the pleasure will be finding the little details within the solos, and there's no denying that the group - which now boasted Jeff Coffin in addition to Fleck, Victor Wooten, and Roy "Futureman" Wooten - can play. Often, it's enjoyable to just hear them jam, but the problem is often the songs lack any substance beneath the playing

After an epic, Grammy-winning live album, Fleck returns to the studio for a surprisingly subtle, intricate suite of instrumentals-and a number of vocal tracks-combining his usual daring on banjo with mandolin, synths, and theremin. The record is a dreamy soundtrack of reggae, pop, world beat, and techno, merging into an ub-funk-jazz (such a cumbersome label for his agile music)  . Exclusive discount for Prime members.
