The Dissent of Man is the fifteenth album by the Californian punk rock band Bad Religion, which was released on September 28, 2010. It was their first album in three years, following the release of New Maps of Hell in 2007. The band commenced writing new material in 2008, but would not begin studio work until May 2010. The writing and recording process spanned two years and was slowed down considerably by touring schedules. The album was finally finished in June 2010.

Yes, this is another Bad Religion album that sounds just like a Bad Religion album. Actually, wait, there is something to add. Compared to most of the previous releases, The Dissent Of Man is almost scandalously apolitical.
On Bad Religion's 15th album in 30 years, the stage opens with a sentimental but roused Greg Graffin reminiscing, Do you remember when we were young?/Adventure had no end/Those were the days, my friend, to recall the melodic blast of their early years. Still, even die-hard fans recognize the lack of trajectory for the band; the first album ruled, and if you like the mid-career songs, the late songs are pretty much the same.
With The Dissent Of Man, Bad Religion are clearly leaving their speedy past and comfort levels on the backburner and forging ahead with a mature and modern punk rock outlook, fusing many more styles of rock successfully into their bag of tricks. The band could have made a quickie follow-up to New Maps Of Hell but went in a completely different, riskier direction that paid off on a bigger scale creatively. To stay in the past is to allow yourself to be ruled by it; Bad Religion are looking to their bright future and the possibility it brings.
The Dissent of Man is the fifteenth Bad Religion album. At the onset, they were one band among many, but by the late ‘80s, it was becoming apparent that their melodic and sincere punk-rock styling was likely to outlast their competition. The Dissent of Man is everything that made the band’s reputation. The Day That the Earth Stalled and Only Rain are tight, powerful songs that fulfill the needs of any guitar-rock fan’s cravings
This is the record that took Bad Religion from being a premiere punk band to becoming something far bigger. Featuring iconic cover art by Fred Hidalgo, "Recipe For Hate" retains the band's hallmark energy and rebellion exemplified by the classic "American Jesus," but the sonic palette has been slightly expanded. With "Struck A Nerve" the album featured the band's first song to be played on radio since their debut seven inch. Eddie Vedder of Pearl Jam and Johnette Napolitano of Concrete Blond contribute guest vocals
