The Black Album has ironically been the white whale for many a Prince collector. The original album was slated to be released in 1988 after Sign O The Times in an entirely black sleeve with no name or title on it. However, at the last minute, Prince got cold feet and pulled the album from release citing that it was evil. Instead, the brighter Lovesexy was released.
The Black Album is Prince’s most notorious album, and one of the most talked-about and bootlegged releases in music history. Although Prince himself would later explain why he decided to shelve the album, all his adoring public knew in 1987 was that he was preparing to release a supremely funky, dirty, and dangerous-sounding record that was so hot it would come with a pitch-black album sleeve, and that it would come hot on the heels of his wildly successful double-album. Sign o’ the Times, released only a few months earlier.
Originally scheduled for release in November of 1987 - following the double-album Sign o' the Times by a matter of months - Prince pulled The Black Album weeks before its release, guaranteeing it near-mythic status. Urban legends spread like wildfire: Prince believed it was too bleak to release; Warner Bros. balked at its explicit lyrics; no CDs were ever pressed, and all the LPs were destroyed. That final rumor was certainly untrue, since bootlegs immediately appeared, and when it finally received official release in the fall of 1994, nearly every die-hard fan already had the record
The infamous album that Prince shunned himself, TBA is one heck of a listen. Rightfully the first to be called "The Black Album" (take that Jay-Z, and Metallica), this LP has no official title. It is also often referred to as "The Funk Bible". Whichever you decide to call it, it is recommended one gets their hands on it, as it is indeed funky and in your face. As if Prince wasn't a dirty, funky perv to begin with, this album drips with all things nasty

The Black Album" is the 16th full-length studio album by Prince. It's known as "The Black Album" due to its plain black sleeve, which contains no information apart from the catalogue number printed on the spine in peach letters. The sticker on the 1994 release labeled it "The legendary Black Album". It was originally intended to be released on 8 December 1987, but was canceled at Prince's request just prior to release (on 1 December 1987)

This is a misspress, as Side A is etched as NOIR-69-A on runout, but NOIR-69-B on the label. Vice-versa for side B.
