Ticket to Ride is the first studio album by American music duo the Carpenters. At the time of its initial release in 1969, it was issued under the title Offering, with a completely different cover photo. It was a commercial failure and produced only one minor hit single, a ballad version of the Lennon-McCartney song "Ticket to Ride". After the Carpenters' subsequent breakthrough, however, the album was reissued internationally under the name Ticket to Ride and sold moderately
In 19641965, Larry Kane was the only American reporter, broadcast or newspaper, to travel with the Fab Four on every stop of their North American tour. Along with Geoff Emerick's fascinating book HERE, THERE & EVERYWHERE, TICKET TO RIDE by Larry Kane is a must read for all Beatles fans and historians. While Emerick covers the Beatles' recording history from 1962 to their final days together (and beyond), Larry Kane zeroes in on the two North American tours of 1964 and 1965, a time representing the peak of Beatlemania. Indeed, from the crazed, tumultuous, and mind-boggling experiences of those two tours, Kane was literally thrust into the eye of the hurricane
Larry Kane is a respected US TV news anchor and author who has enjoyed a long career bringing hard news to viewers on America’s East Coast. But as a 21-year-old radio reporter in Florida in 1964, a request to interview a British group making its first visit to the States turned in to an assignment that criss-crossed the country as he became the only broadcast journalist to travel with the Beatles to every one of their stops on their inaugural tour. He witnessed the Beatlemania phenomenon at close quarters both in 1964 and 1965, and later documented the experience in his book Ticket to Ride . I feel fantastic that so many people see my covering the Beatles as something I’m mostly associated with, but here in the greater Philadelphia region, it’s a little different. People associate me with anchoring the news and reporting it. But in recent years, the Beatles are number one, even here.
