Thomas Alva Edison (February 11, 1847 – October 18, 1931) was an American inventor and businessman, who has been described as America's greatest inventor. He developed many devices in fields such as electric power generation, mass communication, sound recording, and motion pictures.
Thomas A. Edison, Incorporated (originally the National Phonograph Company) was the main holding company for the various manufacturing companies established by the inventor and entrepreneur Thomas Edison. It operated between 1896 and 1957, when it merged with McGraw Electric to form McGraw-Edison. The National Phonograph Company was incorporated on 27 January 1896. It was restructured and reincorporated as Thomas A. Edison, Inc. on 28 February 1911.
The Edison Awards are inspired by Thomas A. Edison, an American icon with an international presence. Edison remains the standard for measuring technological prowess and entrepreneurship among today's geniuses of creation and management. His inventions were marketed all over the world and Edison remains one of the best-known historical figures. A savvy businessman and shrewd manager, Edison had enormous talent for transferring technology from laboratory to market.

After years as an itinerant telegraph operator and sometime inventor, at 21, he came to New York City, where he found work as a repair superintendent at the Gold and Stock Telegraph Company
Thomas Alva Edison, J. marries Beatrice Heyzer. Prior to their marriage, they had been living together under the names of Burton and Beatrice Willard. Edison files a deed of transfer for his birthplace home in Milan, Ohio, which he had purchased in 1905 from Marion Isabel Ristine Wheeler, the granddaughter of his late sister Marion. Madeleine Edison enrolls at Bryn Mawr College; she leaves without graduating in June 1908. Charles Edison becomes chairman of the board of directors of Thomas A. 20 November. Edison's brother-in-law, Lewis Alexander Miller, marries Cotta Smyser. Edison who represents the standard for measuring technological prowess and entrepreneurship among today's geniuses of creation and management. Thomas Alva Edison was the most prolific inventor in American history. He amassed a record 1,093 patents covering key innovations and minor improvements in a wide range of fields, including telecommunications, electric power, sound recording, motion pictures, primary and storage batteries, and mining and cement technology.
