Wake Up Everybody is an album released by Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes on the Philadelphia International record label in November 1975. It was produced by Kenneth Gamble & Leon Huff. This would be the last album to include Teddy Pendergrass before he left the group for a solo career. The album features the hit singles "Wake Up Everybody" and "Tell the World How I Feel About 'Cha Baby"

Wake Up Everybody" is an R&B song written by John Whitehead, Gene McFadden and Victor Carstarphen. Originally recorded by Harold Melvin & the Blue Notes, with Teddy Pendergrass singing lead vocals, the song had a somewhat unconventional structure, starting subdued and building slowly to a climax. The title track from their 1975 album, the song spent two weeks at number one on the Hot Soul Singles chart in early 1976

Sporting their trademark lush, string-laden production from Gamble and Huff (who also wrote about half the album's material), the smooth soul outfit delivers a mix of deep soul balladry and uptempo dance tracks. There is no shortage of fine vocal performances all around, notably from Melvin and from future solo star Teddy Pendergrass.

Harold Melvin and the Bluenotes with Teddy Pendergrass and Sharon Paige give us an album that you can listen to, dance fast or slow to, and sing along with. This is a classic album magnificently executed vocally and technically. These people are real singers, artists! and the Bluenotes in the background are pitch perfect. It’s the music I grew up listening and dancing to and it still resonates in such a positive, upbeat way. When I play this disk, my guests all sing along or dance, or both! 3.

Led by the great Harold Melvin, they formed as early as 1954, but struggled for many years until they finally broke through in 1972, much thanks to then-new lead singer Teddy Pendergrass, whose powerful, expressive baritone, alternating between singing and screaming, counts as one of the most distinctive voices in soul music.
