my copy has low sound and crackles throughout.shame as death waltz has a good track record for releasing vinyl.anyone else have issues with this release?.

Just an update: bugged Death Waltz for a while (Carlos was very helpful) and they tried to find me a spare copy (its out of print currently). The copy he found he listened to, had the same issue, so his guess was that there was a bad batch. I'm returning my frosted clear version (2014, here: http://www.discogs.com/John-Carpenter-Alan-Howarth-Prince-Of-Darkness/release/6382865 ) and just purchased a black on discogs (2012, here: http://www.discogs.com/John-Carpenter-Alan-Howarth-Prince-Of-Darkness/release/3907102 ). I believe 2012, first pressing is the only black copy. The surface noise is very muted there, but definitely not distracting, very smooth. The surface noise on my frosted copy is very crackly, spitty, and definitely is distracting. Listened to A4 and A5 on each back to back; 2012 black version is vastly superior to my ear. Would hope that in the future they released this in black, seems necessary with more ambient works.

My copy, which is the frosted-clear 2014 pressing (same pressing I guess, just a different color), has a really high level of surface noise, almost a constant hiss. It's troublesome because so much of this soundtrack is very subtle, ambient and quiet. It's a shame; I hunted for a long time for a copy of this, not cheap new, and its kind of a letdown. Significant surface noise aside, it still sounds great on record, much better than the lossless format I was listening to that I think was ripped from CD. Can hear a lot of the textures and sound in much greater fidelity if you're able to tune the noise out. It's really unfortunate that it isn't cleaner. Maybe there are a couple of bad stamps?

Much of this soundtrack is pretty quiet and ambient anyway, My clear vinyl copy has a few pops and crackles, but nothing's a dealbreaker.

I've got a pale blue copy without the litho.

Me too. I wonder if this should be submitted as a seperate release.
