Only 5 left in stock (more on the way). Anselmo hasn't just paved his own path. he's bulldozed it with his bare hands. His primal, powerful presence led Pantera to Grammy Award nominations, sales of 20 million albums worldwide, legions of diehard fans, and an indisputable heavy metal legacy. Great album, bought it to get signed by the band at a show. ANSELMO & THE ILLEGALS, the project led by the former PANTERA and current DOWN/SUPERJOINT frontman, will release its sophomore album, "Choosing Mental Illness As A Virtue", on January 26, 2018 via Anselmo's Housecore Records in the . and Season Of Mist in other parts of the world.

And much like the embattled musician's previous solo record, "Choosing Mental Illness" retains the same ridiculously heavy, pissed-off extreme metal sound. The music is still every bit as chaotic and dissonant as it was on "Walk Through Exits Only". The musicians on the record have shifted a bit, with guitarist Marzi Montazeri and bassist Bennett Bartley being replaced on this record with Mike DeLeon and Walter Howard, respectively, with the addition of Superjoint guitarist Stephen Taylor as a second guitarist. The production is loud, almost obnoxiously so, to the point where even an ardent metal fan may need to take a breather when listening to the album as a whole. It's almost a challenge for your ears to sit through the entire record, even compared to other extreme metal acts.

The songwriting on Mental Illness is concise and focused, by all means ten tracks in 46 minutes should not feel as painfully infinite as Phil’s shit-throated misanthropy makes it seem. Sure, the mix is a bit rough, with the guitars being so front and center that even Gonzales’ pummeling tends to take a back seat to the strings, but there are far worse things happening here which are beyond the bands control, and even Lord Swanö couldn’t save Mental Illness from the Anselmo plague.
