The Thunder: Perfect Mind: tracks 1 to 8 recorded during the Thunder Perfect Mind sessions. All these tracks subsequently appeared on the "Emblems" and "Calling For Vanished Faces" compilations, with the exception of "Red House". Mastered at Skye Mastering. Liner Notes: March 5, 2005. This is the sister album to Nurse With Wound's album of the same name. May well be the best album I have ever heard, certainly Current 93's pinnacle (followed, but not too closely, by Of Ruine or some Blazing Starre), this is an unbelievably epic, perfectly composed album which brings together everything David Tibet was thinking about in the albums before in a much clearer state of mind (. his speed-influenced hallucinations of a.

1992's THUNDER PERFECT MIND sees Current 93 leader David Tibet turning toward a self-styled strain of pagan-Christian gnosticism (the title is from a Gnostic poem), and a fascination with the folk traditions of the British Isles. Every armchair theologist must have her exegesis, and THUNDER PERFECT MIND is the fundamental volume of Current 93's curious catechism. Tibet dissects imagery from Judeo-Christian, occult, Druid, and Eastern dogma, framed by a fragile skein of 12-string guitars, hand drums, harp, strings, and woodwinds.

This seems to be a very quiet pressing. In order to hear it well it needs to be turned up pretty loud which in turn brings the noise floor up to a noticeable level. As others have mentioned, this is tolerable during louder passages, but quite noticeable during quieter moments and between tracks.
Finally, a worthy vinyl reissue of TPM. This black vinyl pressing eliminates the background hiss found on the purple vinyl version. They got it right this time. Would have been nice to have a gatefold sleeve but that's just quibbling.
Absolutely dead right, it really is a great sounding version. The sleeve and inner booklet are quality too.

A new repress on black vinyl now available from Tibet's website.

Yes it is noisy. Constant hiss that doesn't bother me that much when music plays but it is noticable in quieter parts and between tracks. Couple pops but nothing serious. Rather nice sound quality. Vinyls are flat. Packaging is very simple - no gatefold, basic insert without any photos, graphic liner notes etc (just lyrics). I don't like the idea of messing with cover art - would prefer original artwork (or this funny one with Wain cat). Overall it's fine reissue but previous one ("Swastikas For Noddy") was better done.
Just received the purple vinyl Spheres reissue of TPM and it has pretty bad hiss when played on a higher end turntable. When the music passages are loud it's tolerable but in the quiet sections it's very noticeable as well as during the gaps of silence between tracks. By comparison, as someone else pointed out, the Swastikas for Noddy reissue is much better and is also on colored vinyl. It must be a pressing plant issue on this one.The good news is they are going to repress this in black vinyl which I hope resolves the problem.EDIT: Black vinyl pressing is now available and fixes the problem.
I concur - this is a great pressing of a fantastic album. Snap it up now while it's still reasonably priced.

Can anyone say something about the quality of the remaster 2017? Is it better than the 2002/2003 remaster (CD-version) and what about dynamic range? Many thanks in advance.
I'm happy with the pressing quality of my copy. Sound is a little bassy, but this might be due to my setup.
Anyone have any comments on the pressing quality of this release? Have had mixed results with some other Spheres releases.
I don't find the TPM noise floor and hiss acceptable for colored vinyl. It's really bad when played on my equipment. The colored vinyl reissue of Swatikas for Noddy doesn't have the same flaws and sounds much better.

Got a copy for Christmas, glad to finally have this on vinyl but to my ears and turntable it's another crackly Spheres release which is a real shame. Surprised some are saying this is a good pressing, maybe I've just got unlucky three times in a row with Spheres records.
The Thunder Perfect Mind reissue is really bad/poor in comparison with Swastikas for Noddy reissue. It'is due to pressing plant (GZ Media) .
For me too much hiss for this reissue :-( i am totaty disappointed. Not a good job for this great album.

Received my copy from Cargo Records today as well and can confirm that my copy is fine, too.
Got a perfect copy from Cargo UK. I'm very satisfied and can confirm the comments le_singe_vert made below.Clean vinyls without scuffs also because of quality inner sleeves, great job!
confirmed. my copy sounds quite clean, even at higher volumes on a middle class system. considering the release date and coloring, this is a very good pressing.
Once again, we see that the assessment of a pressing quality depends on many factors (one's ears, expectations, equiment and luck mostly), as I dislike some reissues that have been praised by others for instance, but find this one excellentThe records are thick, flat and not off-centeredGot mine the day before yesterday and gave it a couple of spins alreadyYou can hear some light hissing in the background at higher volume, but I'd say it goes unoticed and is totally acceptable for a colored vinylI'm really happy with this reissue, and I am a very picky listener :)
Really? Previous Current 93 reissue ("Swastikas") wasn't that bad ...
god dammit. awaiting mine still. annoyed to hear that it's noisy
This reissue is super noisy and I am no audiophile. Can someone please give this wonderful record the pressing it deserves?
Is this limited to 1500? I thought Tibet said it'd be available in stores worldwide.

mattmacneil yeah that's what I was thinking. The statement on his website was written a little weirdly. thanks! Yeah, it definitely could have been worded a little differently, or the whole "in an edition of 1,500 copies," part removed altogether so as not to cause confusion. But I think we all got it figured out now, so thanks for asking the question...it's what caused me to go back and re-read it myself :)
noix2coco You're right ! I made a mistake, I removed the Ltd edition. :) No worries, as mattmacneil said, it was worded a little weirdly on David's website. Very easy to understand how one could misinterpret what was written...hell, I thought it meant that this reissue was limited to 1,500 copies at first as well lol.
There's an edition that will be regular black vinyl coming out later this year. I think December 15th?
You're right ! I made a mistake, I removed the Ltd edition. :)
yeah that's what I was thinking. The statement on his website was written a little weirdly. thanks!
I thought it was limited to 1,500 copies at first, but after re-reading the post on David's website, it says, "It is the first time that has been available on vinyl since its first pressing, in an edition of 1,500 copies, in 1992. Here are SixTeen Tracks To The Stars."I think whoever edited this release and said that it's limited to 1,500 misread that and was assuming that THIS reissue is limited to 1,500 copies, but I would imagine the post on David's website was referring to the original pressing of the album from 1992 that was limited to 1,500 "regular" copies and 200 hand-numbered and signed copies. So yeah, unless it has been explicitly stated elsewhere, I don't think this is limited to 1,500.
pre-order is finally, finally up! release set for december 1. https://davidtibet.com/products/thunder-perfect-mind-the-spheres-20-re-issue-2-lp
pre-order sold out on his website. I think I read that they'd be available in stores, though.
just got david tibet’s newsletter and apparently it is coming any time now! new album art too!
I've learned that any projections for such re-releases are subject to change, or to be dropped altogether. The remaster is done. A test pressing with David and Cashmore's signatures was auctioned for some worthy cause. Still, I wouldn't hold my breath for the re-release. I wish it would happen and soon. I hate seeing these nutty prices.
Same thing happened with that 3 LP set of all the Stapleton/Tibet material.
One year later, no trace of the Thunder Perfect Mind reissue. Does anyone have some news about it?
This album is finally getting a repress and should be up on David Tibet's website for pre-order sometime in January 2016!!!
It will come, and the remaster is done, has been done, but welcome to the world of C93 "it's only time." Running a year, a decade, behind is what one simply has to get used to. I pre-paid for a very limited Her Ghost Sings Spheres, which was at one time the emminent release, and now there is no release date, refunds are offered, and those who don't mind waiting will wait. It looks like Red, or Red Red Red (triple shot) is coming first, a more "official" Current 93 album, triple album. I like the flip from ded ded ded to red red red. c93red.com . I don't mind waiting on Her Ghost, and I'll pre-order the remaster of Thunder too, when the opportunity presents itself. I've paid mostly second-hand sellers, here, for much of my C93 collection, and as these records have given me so much, I like that I'm giving something back to the artist, and even if Her Ghost never comes, I wouldn't mind making the donation. I can't think of any one, any band, other than DMBT and C93, I'd feel that way about.
Or at least that's what I was told when I asked!
Having just received a copy of this today, I immediately understood why this is so rare. This record is extremely fragile. Presumably due to World Serpent's limited budget at the time, everything was manufactured as thin and light as possible, so I don't imagine there are many copies of this album left out of the 1700 produced.
Why the shit is this so expensive? How has it not been repressed? An album this good deserves more copies.
Agreed. 1500 copies for this amazing album is too few..
Mine suffers from disc rot. seems a problem with more earlier World Serpant CD's. Seems to be eaten away in time. How about yours?
My Cd is clean and in a very good condition as you were allowed to exchange your rotten Cd at PDO many many years ago.I was happy I had exchanged many of these bronzing CD's.Unfortunately that is now not possible anymore.
May well be the best album I have ever heard, certainly Current 93's pinnacle (followed, but not too closely, by Of Ruine or some Blazing Starre), this is an unbelievably epic, perfectly composed album which brings together everything David Tibet was thinking about in the albums before in a much clearer state of mind (i.e. his speed-influenced hallucinations of a giant crucified Noddy had thankfully taken the background). A gnostic examination of the apocalypse, and the notion that Hitler has initiated it as an avatar of Vishnu. Contrary to popular belief, this does not mean that David Tibet worships Hitler, quite the opposite in fact (leave that to Death in June). Tibet rather sees him as a symbol of humanity's "most base", a firm warning from the gods to man. Cashmore's compositions as always are exquisite and Tibet's poetry is as well-written as ever. Star moments include the spacious ballad of A Sadness Song, A Song For Douglas (which is a heartwarming ode to Douglas P.'s (Death in June) obsession with the bygone age of order), and the opus Hitler As Kalki (Tibet's epic explication of the above notion). Unfortunately, the outtakes on disc 2 do not match the original album, but it is always nice to hear Tibet's continual reworking of his material. The best benefit of this reissue is the mix, it is vastly improved over the 1992 release, which was far too quiet and lacked punch (I used to always have to turn my speakers up for this album, still pieces of the mix would be muffled.)
This is one of my favorite albums of all time. The terms "ambient" and "industrial," however, are probably misleading. The only connection to so-called industrial music is the work a lot of these artists produced much earlier in their careers—David Tibet was part of 23 Skidoo, Psychic TV, and Whitehouse, and Steven Stapleton is the man behind Nurse With Wound. What I love about Current 93, though, is how different each one of their albums is from any of their others. "Thunder Perfect Mind" combines old English ballads, folk music, apocalyptic musings, biblical references, and odd literary influences to create a unique and beautiful work. It's not like anything else I've ever heard. To be honest, I didn't like it at first, but it grew with me, and now I think it's absolutely brilliant. I'm always hesitant to recommend Current 93, since their music doesn't exactly appeal to everyone, but if you're curious, this album is a good place to start.
