The Damnwells are an indie rock band originally from Brooklyn, New York The band formed in 2001 and has released four full length albums, Air Stereo (2006, Epic Records/Rounder Records),Bastards of the Beat (2003, Epic Records), and One Last Century (2009, self-released).

Something doesn’t sound right.

I have seen all the blacktop boys Running through the streets tonight They're chasing down all the west side girls Jumpin' turnstiles for a free ride But no one seems to hear the music 'Cause no one listens to the band anymore So when the night is through We lay down in spinning rooms With love waiting outside the door. She thinks we're just makin' a movie But this is almost real life Where we bleed here We bleed everywhere He's got his hands on the wheel now The great big wheel He's turning everything around But she's not coming down.

Formed in 2001 as a full-fledged band, the Damnwells gradually came to represent the songwriting efforts of singer/guitarist Alex Dezen, whose mix of alt-country and alternative pop/rock remained consistent despite frequent lineup shifts. The album contains 12 new Damnwells songs recorded in Chicago with producer Neal Ostrovsky. The band has been referred to as a collaborative of great musicians and producers working with songs by lead singer/songwriter Alex Dezen. Dezen and Ted Hudson are the only two musicians who have remained a constant presence in the band over the years.

The band themselves, meanwhile, have remained steadfast in their belief that those pesky deadlines robbed them of a better album. They re-recorded versions of some of its tracks for singles and compilation versions and, in 2005, Bono told the Chicago Tribune he harboured ambitions to redo the whole thing again. There’s talk about the band going back in and fixing it, because the bones of a great album are ther. f we’d just had another month, we could have finished i.
