Shostakovich: Goldene Berge; Maxim. While there are no complete recordings of each of Shostakovich's scores for the three Maxim films, there is this recording of nine cues from all three movies. Unfortunately, the notes don't indicate which cue is from which movie, so it is impossible to make a critical judgment of the quality of the scores for the separate movies. But it is possible to make a critical judgment of the quality of the nine cues and, while no comparison is possible because no other recordings of the Maxim music exists, it is also possible to make a critical judgment on the quality of the performance. He obtains wonderful playing from the Berliner chester and Capriccio gives the Sinfonieorchester magnificent sound. A superb recording of great movie music.
