Misha Raitzin was a tenor with the Metropolitan Opera. Born in Ukraine, Raitzin studied as a tenor at the Moscow Conservatory. After graduating, he rose to become a leading tenor at the Bolshoi Opera in Moscow. He also performed widely as a soloist, performing with many of the leading European orchestras. He emigrated to Israel in 1972 where he performed at the Tel Aviv Opera and with the Israel Philharmonic. He debuted with the Metropolitan Opera in 1975. He was also a masterful performer of cantorial and Jewish folk music, being featured on numerous albums in both the Jewish and Operatic genres

Misha Raitzin, a tenor who sang with the Metropolitan Opera, died of a lung aneurysm at his Manhattan home on Wednesday. He was 59 years old. Born in the Ukraine in 1930, Mr. Raitzin studied voice at the Moscow Conservatory and became a leading tenor with the Bolshoi Opera. He also was a soloist with the Moscow Philharmonic and other European orchestras. Mr. Raitzin emigrated with his family to Israel in 1972, where he sang with the Tel Aviv Opera and the Israel Philharmonic under Zubin Mehta. Two years later, he made his United States concert debut at Town Hall.
